Petition against increased compulsion

The Mental Health Alliance is calling for people to sign a petition against the proposed extension of compulsion laws in the new Mental Health Bill. The petition forms part of the Alliance’s Stand Up for Mental Health campaign.

The petition states: “The Government is proposing an extension of the use of compulsion. They will increase the stigma attached to mental illness and as a result vulnerable people may be discouraged from asking for help when they need it.”

The Alliance calls on the Government “to reconsider its proposals for the reform of the Mental Health Act” and “provide better support and protection for patients, their families and carers, and all those working in mental health services.”

The Mental Health Alliance a coalition of 77 organisations that aims to secure a better Mental Health Bill. To read more about the Stand Up for Mental Health campaign, go to: The Mental Health Alliance website.
