New clinical guidelines on the appropriate treatment and care of individuals with schizophrenia within the NHS living in England and Wales have been produced. The National Institute for Clinical Excellence (NICE) commissioned the guidelines from the National Collaborating Centre for Mental Health (NCCMH), a group of mental health professionals and service user organisations led jointly by the British Psychological Society’s Centre for Outcomes Research and Effectiveness (CORE) and the Royal College of Psychiatrists.
Steve Pilling, Director of CORE, commented: “The advice includes positive recommendations about a range of psychological interventions, particularly family therapy and CBT”.
The full guidelines – Schizophrenia: Core Interventions in the Treatment and Management of Schizophrenia in Primary and Secondary Care – along with a guide for service users, their carers and the public, can be found on the NICE website.
