The Disability Rights Commission has launched a formal investigation into the health care received by people with long term mental illness and people with learning disabilities.
The “Closing the Gap” investigation aims to find out what can be done to improve healthcare for people with a long term mental illness, particularly with regard to primary care services such as:
• visits to GPs
• flu prevention
• screening for cancer
• help with stopping smoking
• family planning.
The DRC are keen to hear from people with a long-term mental illness and have produced a questionnaire for those wishing to share their experiences. For more information on how to take part, visit: www.dcr.org.uk.
